Independent hotels in Burgenland

Burgenland is located in eastern Austria and is characterised by open landscapes, vineyards, historic towns and the unique natural environment surrounding Lake Neusiedl. One of Austria’s sunniest regions, it combines nature, wine, culture and relaxation, offering a distinctly different experience from the country’s Alpine destinations.

Lake Neusiedl is one of Burgenland’s most distinctive landscapes. Together with its extensive reed beds, surrounding vineyards and the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park, it forms a remarkable natural environment. Cycling, sailing, water sports and wildlife watching are among the most popular ways to explore the region.

Burgenland is also one of Austria’s most important wine regions. Around towns such as Rust, Gols, Deutschkreutz and Eisenstadt, wineries and traditional wine taverns are an essential part of the local culture. The region is particularly renowned for its red wines, alongside distinctive white and sweet wines.

Further south, the landscape becomes increasingly defined by rolling hills, forests and peaceful countryside. Thermal spas and wellness resorts around Bad Tatzmannsdorf and Stegersbach make southern Burgenland a popular destination for relaxation, while golf, cycling and hiking offer plenty of opportunities for active days outdoors.

Burgenland is a diverse destination for travellers looking to experience Austria at a more relaxed pace – combining vineyards, nature, wellness and the distinctive lifestyle surrounding Lake Neusiedl.
