Independent hotels in Mondsee

Mondsee is located in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut, combining a beautiful lakeside setting with the mountains of the Alpine foothills. Lake Mondsee is one of the region’s best-known lakes and, together with the historic town centre and surrounding mountains, gives the destination its distinctive character.

During summer, life revolves around the lake. Lake Mondsee offers excellent opportunities for swimming, sailing and stand-up paddling, while cycling and hiking routes invite visitors to explore the shoreline and surrounding mountains. The dramatic Drachenwand mountain provides one of the most distinctive backdrops to the lake.

The centre of Mondsee is also well worth exploring. Traditional buildings, cafés, restaurants and small shops surround the historic market square. One of the town’s best-known landmarks is the impressive Basilica of St. Michael, which has become an iconic part of Mondsee’s townscape.

Mondsee’s location also makes it an excellent starting point for discovering the wider Salzkammergut region. Other lakes, traditional villages and Alpine landscapes are within easy reach. The city of Salzburg is only a short drive away, making it easy to combine a relaxing stay by the lake with a visit to one of Austria’s most famous cities.

Mondsee is a versatile destination for travellers looking to combine relaxing days by the water with nature, Austrian tradition and easy access to Salzburg – all surrounded by one of the Salzkammergut’s most beautiful lake landscapes.
